And another question: I have the idlwave shell running in a dedicated
frame. However, when I hit an error or a stop, emacs will split the
dedicated frame (showing me the error in both the split frame and in
the original source), AND opens a new frame with a mirror of the
command line.

I can only assume this happens because I have some redundancy between
the dedicated frame and something else, but closing two windows every
time I need to debug is a serious draw on my morale. Any suggestions
as to what I've done wrong here?

My working .emacs file can be seen here:
http://www.higp.hawaii.edu/~koeppen/my.emacs

It's shamelessly ripped off from other more seasoned users, hence my
issues.

Sounds like it's getting confused about which frame is which. What
version of Emacs/IDLWAVE?

Actually, it happened through about three more sessions until I
upgraded my OS (for other reasons). Since then IDLWAVE/Emacs has been
relatively happy.
