Playing with a newly delivered Macbook Pro today, on which OSX 10.5.3
and subsequently XQuartz 2.2.3 is installed.
I installed IDL 7.0, but I get a slew of errors upon starting
Workbench:
Error creating the view: An error occurred while automatically
activating bundle com.rsi.idldt.ui (26)
IDL UI Bundle Initialization: An internal error occurred during "IDL
UI Bundle Initialization"
Label Job: An internal error occurred during "Label Job" -
java.lang.NullPointerException
etc.
If I close out the error boxes and try for example to click in the
command line area of the interface I get more of the same. "Open File"
leads to a "Chosen operation is not currently available" message. I
did update to 7.0.1 via the Workbench updater (this it did allow me to
do), but makes no difference.
My Google perusals come up empty - any ideas?

I have a new MBP with 10.5.3 as well, but haven't installed any extra
Quartz Update, my QuartzCore according to System Profiler is 1.5.3, is
that bad? :)
Would you like to share why this Quartz update might be helpful/
required?
Anyhow, no such problems here with an IDL 7.0 installed today, apart
from the already posted problem of the Eclipse patch for 3.3.2 not
being installable, as it seems.
I did some primitive things yet, plotting, iplotting, all seems normal
there.
HTH,
Michael
