... with widget-based applications I had no problems, only with the
graphics windows 0 to 31! Maybe you should try to install XQuuartz
(http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki). Verify by "$ echo $DISPLAY"
in idl that the display variable looks quite uncommon, e.g. /tmp/
launch-tJ12tR/:0 !!

I don't use the Workbench but there were some hints in the list to
delete the .idl directory in your home directory!

That's bad news, Karsten. I have not found a work-around, and not being able
to use the cursor is a killer for my widget-based applications. Are you and
I the only ones with this problem? Does anyone have a workaround? I have
been using Terminal and running IDL from the command line.

I can't get the IDL 7.0 Workbench to start at all - it bounces in the Dock
and then silently stops. Seems like there is a problem with my IDL 7.0
configuration on the Mac under Leopard but I can't sort it out. Any
suggestions?

Dick

I have similar problems, using XQuartz 2.2.3 with Mac OS X 10.5.3 on PPC
and Intel.
I am using idl with Aquamacs idlwave.

I found that the mouse buttons work, if X11 is started by idl. However, in
this case the window manager closing buttons do NOT work or let even crash
idl. You could try to use Terminal for idl to avoid the early start of
X11. Caution, under Leopard DISPLAY should NOT be defined!

I think X11 under Leopard is still problematic but also related to the idl
implementation. These mouse problems I don't have with other X11 related
programs like Gimp or Inkscape.

Karsten
