to invoke it. unzip the zip file, double click the .sav file under
windows or use "idl -vm" and choose the .sav to run under linux.

Have you got to the GUI? A quick check is to select a vector fonts.
Then try to click some random characters. You should see the
characters you clicked appear below the character map. And inside the
text widget, you can see the code needed to generate the output.

How does one invoke it?

I tried restoring your .sav file, but then what?
