Would much like to hear opinions of the main advantages/disadvantages of
IDL/PVWAVE as compared with MATLAB for numerical problems such as solving
diff eq. numerically, minimization, signal processing, fitting theory to
data.

Are there any articles comparing the latest windows versions ?

(I have been using MATLAB for 7 years and I have a 10 min demo version of
IDL but I find it will be impractical to make a reasonable evaluation in
"reasonable" time).
