I am surprised to hear that HDF 4.0 has changed so much from HDF3.3.
Have you tried unsuccessfully to read the data using Wave's HDF3.3
interface? Is this a scientific data set (SDS), or VDATA, ...?)
I find NO incompatibilities using the HDF4.0 SDS interface and IDL
which was compiled with HDF3.3.
I am willing to try reading the data using IDL if you can make
a file available via anonymous ftp.
