Folks,
Those of you who have, for whatever sorry reason, been
long-time readers of this newsgroup know that from time to
time I play a little tennis. In my dotage, I have been
relegated to the doubles court, mostly. Nobody wants me
near a singles court where the youngsters hang out.
(I only mention this because today's news is going over like
a lead balloon at home, and...well, you are my friends.)
So, tonight my team needs a sacrificial lamb to throw into
the fray against a guy who hasn't lost a match all summer.
I volunteer to play my first singles match all year. And
even though this guy is a MUCH better tennis player than I
am, I managed to eke out a victory, not using great shot
making skills (although Lord knows I hit my share of
volleys for winners), but psychological warfare I first
learned on this newsgroup. ;-)
Woo-hoo! Look out Nadal!
Cheers,
David
P.S. Let's just say this guy had never seen *anyone* stand
inside the service line to receive his serves before. I think
he double faulted at least 20 times trying to decapitate me!
