By the way, your link is not complete. There are other modules in the
TEXTOIDL package.

Did you try Googling "textoidl"? That seems to produce useful
results. (unfortunately the original author's site at Minnesota does
not seem to be working, but there are many other mirrors)

With TEXTOIDL you can indeed express basic formulae in TeX/LaTex syntax.
