I'd venture a guess, except I told my wife I would
make an effort to stay "upbeat" during my "retirement". :-)

Cheers,

David

Hmmm. Are you sure that they didn't just change the name on the old
X11 IDLDE? That behavior sounds so familiar.

I wonder how many of the non-emacs folks have upgraded to 7.x but
still use the command line and external editor?

Mine works fine most of the time, too. It's only when it
doesn't that it annoys the hell out of me. :-)

Cheers,

David

P.S. Just don't try running long programs, or interrupting
programs with breakpoints. Then, the percentage of time
it works goes down dramatically. :-(

Perhaps this is another difference between plain IDL 7 and ENVI+IDL,
but CNTL-C and CNTL-V seem to work fine and as one would expect on my
system.

Agreed!
I have set copy and paste to ALT+C, ALT-V .... now I just have to
remember to use it (it comes quite fast after a few program stops :-)

Well, I just thought you would be on the train with
IDL 7 by now. My comments about the IDL Workbench
notwithstanding. :-)

I'm pretty sure there is no going back, but if they don't
get the whole CNTL-C thing sorted out soon, I'm going to
shoot my IDL 7 CD-ROM full of holes and leave it on their
doorstep. Not only can't I copy what I have selected in
the editor, it stops my running IDL programs!!

There are days (today could be an example) when I would
like to throttle someone. Sigh...

Peace Always,

David

My goodness. You mean all that work we did dragging your
a** from IDL 4 to IDL 6 less than a year ago is all for
naught!? Sheesh.... :-(

In most cases, the formats should be compatible -- even backwards
compatible -- and were designed that way. If the file is bigger than
2 GB however, there will be some backward incompatibilities with very
old versions of IDL (like version 5.2 and earlier).
