David,
I just got back to DC from Boulder this evening and was delighted to
see your excellent summary of the meeting. I strongly agree with your
sentiments, particularly those noting the outstanding job that Harold
Cline and the ITTVIS group did in organizing this meeting. In one
regard it was a gathering of many of the "rock stars" of IDL (I know
Mike Galloy will appreciate that comment) and it was an excellent
opportunity to get exposed to the incredible work of the developers
doing work in disciplines different from my own. You're absolutely
right about Eduardo Iturrate's Revolution IDL. That is a phenomenal
application and is just fun to play around with (hmmmm...would that be
among the top 10 signs that you're an IDL geek?).
The one aspect of the meeting that I would like to draw attention to
was the IDL Image contest. There were some really cool entries so it
had to have been a close call with the votes. Regardless, each one of
them gave me new ideas for ways to visualize data. The entry that
used POV-RAY was particularly very nice. I really liked Ken Bowman's
entry and was happy to see that his image won. I would also add to
the list of highlights Henry Throop's slick New Horizons Geometry
Visualizer. That is an impressive piece of software and it looks like
it will be very helpful in planning out the spacecraft's observations
and measurements as it approaches the "real-planet/dwarf-planet/Kuiper-
Belt-Object/IDL-graphics-object/whatever-the-hell-it-is-clas sified-
today-as" Pluto.
Well done, ITTVIS! I hope you folks continue with these meetings. It
was fun.

Thank you for the summary. It has added great motivation for my IDL
usage. Seems like we missed a lot there. Wish we had a chance of
seeing at least the recorded presentations.
