An odd thing has occurred here.
A new version of PV-WAVE with a floating license manager was installed
on one computer. It works. But other computers on the local network
running older versions of PV-WAVE are unable to run anymore.
This is potentially a very serious defect, since it is possible that
other people on our local network might not want to update their
systems or software.
Anyone have any comments/experience which will help us?
Would it not be wonderful if "someone" would write a free or
shareware IDL/PV-WAVE clone? IDL/WAVE syntax is actually quite simple,
and it would not be all that hard to get the basics, to which a variety
of people could add embellishments. (I believe that there is a
shareware MATLAB clone.)
Maybe RSI/VNI would get the idea that system administrators
hate having to waste hundreds or thousands of hours/year dealing
with their stupid license managers--especially since most Unix
systems administrators are just individual users who do the minimum
neccessary to get their machines running. Maybe RSI/VNI would do
something about it in time for the freebee version people to stop
wasting their time before going too far.
Or would that be too "mean"? (-:
