Unless I am missing something, it sounds to me like you
are talking about apples and oranges here. How do
line plots have anything to do with images?

In any case, probably TVIMAGE is your friend, since
with it you can position your image or subimage in
any aspect ratio you like by manipulating the POSITION
keyword.
