Hello. I guess the subject says it all. We simultaneously upgraded
IDL from 3.6 -> 4.0.1 and our SGI from 5.2 -> 5.3. (probably a bad idea
to do simultaneously!) The net result is
code which used to work now does not and fails in ridiculous ways.
Thus I may do:
result=expression
print,result
and get 1e+116 (or "inf" in single precision)

then repeat the same two lines without any intervening code lines
and get 2e-8 (the correct answer)

I can e-mail the gory details if anyone is interested. The main question
is, where did we go wrong- the IDL upgrade or the SGI upgrade?
