I just had an hour's work eaten by an error that would be amusing if
it happened to someone else. I'm running IDL 6.4 on an Intel Mac, OS X
10.4.11. Have an X11 window opened to a remote unix machine on which
I'm running IDL.

I type "?" . Under the Index tab I type in "Scale3", without the
quotes, of course. . As soon as I click on "Scale3 procedure" in the
menu at left or just hit return, the IDL help window and X11 window
both disappear without a trace.

This just happens with scale3, not with any other command I've tried.

This is just strange enough that I thought I'd ask if this happens to
anyone else, and if they have a clue as to what's going on....

I tried to duplicate this on an intel mac running IDL 6.4 and OSX 10.5
and couldn't. Marks situation is, however, an improvement on the bad
old days when doing an odd IDL thing would crash the VAX-VMS operating
system. For example IDL> $IDL. Very good if you didn't care for the
sysadmin.
