Thank you Russel
at the end I also decide to solve this problem outside IDL, through
Adobe InDesign, as I have the possibility to access it through a
colleague of mine. It seems it's not so easily to do it in IDL. This
is a pity I think

Hey Nicola,

I would probably try playing around with the individual plot files
outside IDL for the dreaded merge.

Ghostscript is your friend but getting what you want out of it is
likely non-trivial.

There are some posts on this in comp.lang.postscript, one of them mine
where I asked a similar question.

I gave up on it in the end.

Cheers.

Well, it is pretty clear that ITT doesn't have any
interest in providing improvements in direct graphics
plotting, and hasn't done so for a while.

Obviously they don't care much about their customer base,
because they know there's a lot of legacy code out there,
and people can't just switch to other products.

Welcome to capitalism.

<end rant>

Ciao,
Paolo
