area inside tracings [message #66555]

I was recently given a problem that I at first (and second) glance am
not sure how to solve.

I have scanned images of tracings of rock features. These are closed
(or close to the side) shapes that look like non nested contours from
a map. What I need to do is find the area of each region.

Any thoughts?

- Label_region seems like it should help but its not obvious how to do
this here.
- I could just trace them with cursor then do the 2d integral for the
area but this is less automated than I would love.
