I am pleased to announce that IDL 7.1 is now available to download
from the ITT VIS website. IDL 7.1 expands on the modernization
introduced in the IDL 7.0 Workbench with new features like the Tool
Palette, greater control over the interactive iTools visualizations,
the ability to open many file types without writing any code, and even
IDL command line mode for Windows. Our goal is make IDL even easier to
use whether you’re an experienced or new user.

Enjoy,

Bill Okubo, IDL Product Manager

Thanks so much for your positive fast feedback! Now I will install it
as well! One measurement is better than none. ;)

Best regards,
Michael

I was a bit worried too, but just continued on and have not experienced
any problems yet with my installed Java 1.5.

Hi Bill,

I see that on the Mac it requires an old Java version 1.3.1 instead of
the standard 1.5.
Will it not work at all without 1.3.1 or is that just an insurance on
your side, that you didn't develop it with that version?
Do you know explicitly of any incompatibilities/problems with 1.5?

Cheers,
Michael
