I also posted this at the user forums at ittvis.com (http://
www.ittvis.com/UserCommunity/UserForums/tabid/58/forumid/27/ threadid/8734/scope/posts/Default.aspx)

I recently installed idl 7.1 on our new Sun machine running Solaris
10.

> uname -a
SunOS **** 5.10 Generic_138889-08 i86pc i386 i86pc

When I run idl in command-line mode, everything seems to work fine

> idl
IDL Version 7.1, Solaris (sunos x86_64 m64). (c) 2009, ITT Visual
Information Solutions
...
IDL>

But the other idl tools (idlde, help) do not seem to work.

> idlde
idlde is not available for this system (solaris2.x86_64)
> idlhelp
idlhelp is not available for this system (solaris2.x86_64)
> idlman
idlman is not available for this system (solaris2.x86_64)
> idldemo
The IDL Demos have not been installed. Please consult the
installation guide for instructions on installing the demos.

It looks like I can run "demo" successfully from inside IDL, but if I
try to get help from the command-line IDL by typing something like "?
print" I get

% ONLINE_HELP: Starting the online help browser.
"idlhelp is not available for this system (solaris2.x86_64)".

I've installed IDL many times on many other platforms (solaris8 sparc,
various flavors of linux, mac OSX, even windows) and never had much
trouble - the IDL install is pretty straight-forward. What am I
missing here? Are these tools really not available for this platform?
That seems unlikely, but I do see that the size of the package I have
installed is much smaller than those of the other platforms

IDL & IDL VM 7.1 - Microsoft Windows 32-bit (XP SP2, Vista, Intel/AMD
x86) WINDOWS 289.00
IDL & IDL VM 7.1 - Microsoft Windows 64-bit (XP, Vista, Intel/AMD

IDL & IDL VM 7.1 - Sun Solaris 2(10 Intel/AMD x86_64 (64-bit)) UNIX

IDL & IDL VM 7.1 - Mac OS X – UNIX Install (10.5.1) Intel (32/64-bit)
and PowerPC (32-bit) MAC 269.00
IDL & IDL VM 7.1 - Mac OS X Native Install (10.5.1) Intel (32/64-bit)
and PowerPC (64-bit) MAC 340.00
IDL & IDL VM 7.1 - Linux (32/64-bit, Intel/AMD x86, x86_64) LINUX

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.
