Running startup.pro in IDL 7/Workbench/Windows [message #67788] Mon, 31 August 2009 07:38

I run IDL from the command line and use a startup.pro file, primarily to set
system variables. Because I run on Mac OS/Linux, I use the IDL_STARTUP environment
variable to set my startup file, which ensures that it is executed automatically
when IDL starts.

Someone asked me how to use a startup.pro file in IDL 7.1 (Workbench) on Windows,
and I confess that I don't have a clue. I fired up the Workbench under Mac OS, and
my startup.pro ran automatically. I assume that is due to my having set the
IDL_STARTUP environment variable.

I don't see any straightforward way to set a startup.pro file from within the
Workbench (nothing obvious in Preferences).

Can anyone tell me how to configure a startup.pro file in the Workbench under
Windows? (I don't have a Windows system to play with.)

Thanks, Ken Bowman
