Folks,
I'm going to be in Melbourne next week, and on the campus
of the Australian National University in Canberra the week
after, with some free time in the evenings and weekends.
I'm looking for local knowledge of nearby hiking trails
and/or especially good places to view Australian birds.
Failing that, I'd settle for a great pub. :-)
Cheers,
David

Oh, oh. Don't be telling us that. Coyote is all over me
about visiting the top-less beach there. Cold is not what
he has in mind. :-(
Cheers,
David

Although now that I think of it, it'll probably still be a bit cold
for sitting outside in a beer garden next week. ;-)

In Melbourne, there's lots of nice hiking in the Dandenong
"mountains" (the Australian version of a mountain is not the same as
Colorado's). Healesville (sp?) Sanctuary is kind of cool too. And the
Belgian Beer Garden, while not a pub, is a good place for a beer. :-)=

Hi David,
Good news to hear that you will venture to Victoria. I sent an email
to the address on Coyote's web site because I didn't, until now, have
a Google account.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi David,
It will be a pleasure having you down under sharing some IDL knowledge
with us. WRT to hiking in Canberra, you'll have the Black Mountain
next to ANU/CSIRO for early mornings/lunch break/afternoon hikes.
For the w/e, a lot of good spots not far from the city such as Namadgi
National Park http://www.australianalps.environment.gov.au/parks/namadgi.h tml
. I will be happy to show you around.
I'm not very familiar with Melbourne though, but certainly Kosciusko
Nat Park is a good option, half way from Melbourne and Canberra.
And the best beer in town (in my opinion) in the Wig & Pen pub.

cheers
JP
