Apologies, probably should have checked the bug log first (I assume
you can do this somewhere?). Anyway, I managed to come up with a short-
term solution: stopping the idlhelpserver explicitly with:

idlhelp -command shutdown

Hope this helps some people out until the next release of IDL.
