Installation on NT has an initial step that installation on 95 doesn't -
the installation of the HASP service. (This service allows IDL to
communicate with the HASP dongle - something IDL does directly under 95.)
This should have been done automatically if you ran the installation program
from the CD-ROM. It won't have happened if you just copied an IDL
distribution across from a network drive.

If the installation has been done properly but something has gone wrong
with the HASP service somehow, sometime (this is hard to achieve, but I've
done it once :), the only way I know of to clear things up is to edit the
registry with REGEDT32 and find & delete all keys containing "haspnt".
Then you can reboot and reinstall IDL from scratch.

If you're still having problems, you could be trying to run the wrong
executable. (Here I'm assuming that you're adding your own icons). IDL
and ENVI licenses are different in 3 ways:
1 The key (stuff you type in) you get from RSI is, of course, specific
to your particular license.
2 IDL-only dongles are different to ENVI dongles.
3 IDL licenses only work on the executable IDL32.EXE, while ENVI licenses only
work on the executable ENVI.EXE. (Both of these executables "are" IDL.)
