Hi Everyone,
I just started following this group so I thought I would introduce
myself. I am a student at The Evergreen State College helping with a
project to build an imaging cryo-microtome. Basically, it's an
instrument that cuts very thin slices off a biological sample and
takes a picture after each slice. If we fill the blood vessels with
fluorescent polymer, and use the appropriate illumination wavelength
and lens filter, we get images with white blood vessels on a black
background. We're using IDL to perform 2D pre-processing on the
images, combine them into a voxel file, and then vectorize the voxel
stack to get meaningful data like diameter, length, and branch angle.
Anyway, I don't have any questions at the moment, but I probably will
soon, and hopefully I can provide some answers as well. My current
pursuit is using Gradient Vector Flow snakes to do feature recognition
and filter out some extraneous glow that we get in the images. I have
just been using IDL for a few months but I am really enjoying it, so
I'm glad to have the chance to talk with other IDL programmers.
Cheers,
James Preiss
