Hi

Has anyone else experienced the following problem, and if so found a
solution?

When I start an instance of IDL remotely, i.e. through an ssh
connection forwarding X, and execute any IDL command that causes an X-
window to be opened, then invariably when I exit IDL my local X server
crashes, and I'm logged out. This only happens with IDL (7.0 and 7.1),
and only when I remotely open an X-window. It's completely
reproducible, and it's annoying the #*%$ out of me!

I've searched the postings on this group, and the closest I've come
across is JJ's post from Jul.9 titled "IDL 7.1 segmentation fault on
exit" (http://tinyurl.com/ygjg79u), but he reports a segfault, not an
X server crash. Otherwise the symptoms seem to be identical.

Seemingly related is also Paul van Delst's post from Jun.22 titled
"IDL object graphics code logs me out?!" (http://tinyurl.com/yhqghky),
but his problem seems specific to Object Graphics and he makes no
mention of remote X. I tried using software opengl by setting
IDL_GR_WIN_RENDERER to 1 using Pref_Set, but that didn't fix the
problem.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

Mike
