I have a new post up about rIDL, an enhanced command line interface to IDL:

It's not ready for "release", but a pretty good time for people to poke
around at it. The Makefile will build on Mac OS X, check the comments of
the post for a Makefile for Linux. (I'll have to Autotools-ize this
project soon.)
