I'm looking for a way to generate and extract a single contour level's
(floating point) XY information form a given surface.

Starting with a 2D intensity array, it is very clear how to use the
CONTOUR procedure's PATH_XY keyword to get this exact information. But
shouldn't it also exist in some form that is not tied to a direct
graphics routine? I know, I could use a PIXMAP to avoid displaying the
graphics. I also suppose that I could also use the IDLgrContour
object. But both of these seem like a lot of unnecessary overhead if I
don't have any intention of plotting or rendering graphics with this
information.

Is there a straightforward
xy = CONTOUR_XY(array, threshold)
function that I'm not aware of?

Thanks,
M.
