Bug in System Variables v2.4 [message #702]

I just updated my Sun to version 2.4 and found that null system variables core dump.
e.g.

IDL> defsysv,'!test',''
IDL> print,!test
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I tried this with my 2.3.2 version with no problems.

This bug seems erratic and sometimes affects non-null string system variables also.

Any ideas for a workaround ?
