Contact your sysadmin and ask them to restart the license manager daemon. If your system
is anything like mine, it's likely that the lmgrd license manager is also managing
licenses other than idl (e.g. compilers, other applications).

If any system work was/is-being performed on those applications, or if the system itself
has been restarted, the license manager may have been stopped.

If the system has been restarted, it means that the lmgrd daemon has not been setup to
restart upon reboot. This requires your sysadmin to add the necessary bits to the system's
init.rc (or whatever it's called on your system.)

So, basically, talk to your sysadmin.

cheers,

paulv

p.s. BTW, you can run the lmgrd as a regular user to test if a non-running daemon is the
problem. Read up on the lmstart and lmdown commands.

Ok, after having now run lmreread (unsuccessfully) I am now getting
the following, different error message:

LICENSE MANAGER: Cannot connect to license server system.
The license server manager (lmgrd) has not been started yet,
the wrong port@host or license file is being used, or the
port or hostname in the license file has been changed.
Feature: idl
Server name: lm1.license.[my school].EDU
License path: /usr/local/itt/idl70/../license/license.dat:/usr/
local/itt/l
icense/*.lic:
FLEXnet Licensing error:-15,570. System Error: 115 "Operation now
in
progress"
For further information, refer to the FLEXnet Licensing End User
Guide,
available at "www.macrovision.com"..
License file: /usr/local/itt/idl70/../license/license.dat:/usr/local/
itt/li
cense/*.lic

How exactly do I correct this?

Thanks!

Ok, I shot them an email, and IDL working again, so they apparently
reset it.

Thanks!
