A Usenet newsgroup is different from an RSS feed. Google Groups (and
maybe others?) does offer an RSS feed for a Usenet group, but then you
are back to the spam/irregularly timed delivery of Google Groups.
Thunderbird can handle RSS feeds *and* Usenet newsgroups though. Last I
was using Windows regularly, Outlook could not handle Usenet newsgroups.
But Outlook Express could.

as I understand it, outlook 2010 does not handle newsgroups (outlook never
did,
it was delegated to outlook express and now windows live mail).
so, use windows live mail. I guess.

Dear Michael and Liam,
I use Outlook 2010 also for reading rss feeds, but I need the newsfeed
as http-address. That's my problem. Maybe someone can help?

I'm not a Windows person, but the Internet wisdom seems to say that
Windows Live Mail is your best option for recent versions of Windows.

I had been using aioe.org previously, but I'm trying out
eternal-september.org as suggested by Paul because I see it has a port
80 option (I had firewall issues occasionally on my laptop).
I haven't seen hardly any spam on either server.

Huh. I don't see any of it. I think it's a function of the quality of the newsfeed
provider. E.g. the google group feed for just about any newsgroup appear to be completely
overrun with spam.
Some folks in the fortran newsgroup recommend eternal september.... they seem to be able
to a much better job than google in keeping the newsgroups relatively clean.
cheers,
