My student Lea has prepared packages for Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04 x386
(now without HDF5 and NetCDF, but I will upgrade ASAP)
based on current CVS version (GDL 0.9rc4 + CVS)

http://aramis.obspm.fr/~coulais/IDL_et_GDL/Ubuntu/Packaging- Download_pageEN.html

files *.pro should be in /usr/share/gnudatalangage/lib
and please put this dir. in your GDL_PATH

Please report any problems, suggestions ...

With best regards

Alain

Yes and no: we had contacts, but we never succeed to finish ...
Now we are ready to contribute and interact with a maintainer ;-)

Warning for people testing: we do have "segfault" when calling plot on
some cases (X11),
not clear now why it is OK or not, we will try to improve the
packages ...

Yes, it should be possible. I will asked Lea to prepare it.
And I will inform here when it will be ready.

Is they any wish for a 9.04 package ?

Since it is the first time we prepare a package,
despite we made large tests (and all seems to be OK on our side),
our big concern is if *you* can use it ... Then please report success
and any problem (here on newsgroup or directly by email or on the
source forge page).

amd64 packets are now available, same page
http://aramis.obspm.fr/~coulais/IDL_et_GDL/Ubuntu/Packaging- Download_pageEN.html

packets now include NetCDF and HDF5.

bug related to X11 should be solved --> please upgrade i386 ...

We also change the name, following Ubuntu convention ...

Please remember these packets are based on current CVS version ...
(we hope to provide a rc5 in August)

Please report any problems.

Well, since that happens sometimes on regular IDL too, I'd just call
it a well done job in emulating those "features" we all love in IDL :)

Ciao,
