There have been some recent IDL questions at StackOverflow.

There is an Interface Description Language group (comp.lang.idl).

But I thought the OP was (mistakenly) thinking that the this "global" newsgroup is like a local forum (like the one at
ITTVIS).

cheers,

Can't comment on gmail, but google groups is pretty notorious for its, uh, less-than-ideal functionality as a newsreader
once a group is targeted by spambots. It's quite strange how bad it is since it apparently doesn't have to be. But,
maybe things have changed recently.

cheers,

paulv

I find they are quite good at filtering with my email. Sometimes junk
gets through but in these cases training seems to work very well.
Perhaps those using Google Groups should click the "Report as Spam"
link at the bottom of the posts to help train the algorithms. If it
just flags an account that won't help much, but if it works like the
email does, it might make a difference.

-k.

Nobody is monitoring it. It is an unmoderated newsgroup and google groups is useless for filtering out spam.

So, immediately stop using google groups to read the newsgroup. Try news.aioe.org. (there are others also).

cheers,
