Hi David,

Yes, IDL 8.0 supports NetCDF 4.0. Here is the info from the "What's
New":

Updates to HDF5 1.8.4 and NetCDF 4.1 libraries, and CDF library
(version 3.3)
• Added the following new NetCDF routines:
• NCDF_DIMIDSINQ
• NCDF_FULLGROUPNAME
• NCDF_GROUPDEF
• NCDF_GROUPNAME
• NCDF_GROUPSINQ
• NCDF_GROUPPARENT
• NCDF_NCIDINQ
• NCDF_VARIDSINQ

You can also do:

IDL> help,'ncdf',/dlm
** NCDF - IDL NetCDF support (not loaded)
Version: 4.1.1, Build Date: JUL 30 2010, Source: ITT Visual
Information Solutions
Path: C:\Program Files\ITT\IDL\IDL80\bin\bin.x86\idl_netcdf.dll
