IDL Editor question [message #7248] Fri, 11 October 1996 00:00

Hello,

I am a relatively new user of IDL, and I've noticed that the reference
manuals and the on-line help don't have much to say on the IDL Editor
window. I was wondering where I might be able to find information this
part of the software.

My immediate question is this: I wrote a simple program to emulate
Matlab's 'polyval' function, which takes as arguments an array of
coefficients for a polynomial (such as that supplied by POLY_FIT) and
an arbitrary vector of x-values, and calculates the curve f(x). It's a
pretty simple program, about 5 lines long, but when I tried to compile
and run it, the IDL Editor window popped up with a green arrow next to
one of the lines. What does this mean? I don't think it signals an
error; the line works when entered from the command line, and besides,
I've had the editor pop up with a red dot next to a line with an error
in it, which worked fine once the error was fixed. So what does the
green arrow mean?

Help with this question would be appreciated, but if you could tell me
where I could find general instructions on the use of the Editor, that
would be more helpful in the long run. Maybe there's a chapter in the
manuals that I missed?

And, as long as I'm here, I have another, probably simpler question.
Is there a way to clear all variables from the working area at once,
without naming them all explicitlly ("delvar, a, b, c, d, ...")?
DELVAR doesn't seem to have a kyword for this, although it would be
nice if there were one, "delvar, /all" or something like that.

Thanks,

Adam Ross
