Best news I've heard in a LONG time. Ranks second all-time next
to the number of bugs fixed. :-)

Cheers,

David,

The download site has ugly glitches that need to be worked on.
However, the release notes are there and the trick is you have to
follow my 3 step directions EXACTLY. If you do, you see the links
described by Paulo. The problem you are seeing happens when you select
the Download Type > Product Update pull down menu - it only shows the
download link. Instead, be sure to only select the Product > IDL menu.
Leave the other pull down menus with their default setting. Worst
case, logout then login and try the 3 steps again.

I apologize to everyone who is frustrated with the quirks on the
ITTVIS download sit. I personally am involved in efforts to start
improving the download experience. I won't promise perfection and it
will take some time to see improvements, but we will make it better.
Thanks for your patience.

Bill

Alright, f**k it! Can someone just please e-mail the damn
release notes to me.

Thanks,

David

P.S. You see what happens when you report nearly 100 bugs
on a product. You get directed to special VIP web
pages. :-(

Alright, I'm now sitting on the page where I can download
the IDL LINUX Product Update and all I see is the patch.
I don't see ANY Release Notes at all!!

This is confounding. I'm using Firefox as a browser.
Any ideas? Totally confused here. :-(

Thanks,

David

Yeah, nothing like that with the Windows downloads.
Guess I'll go upgrade my LINUX machine. Thanks!

This is a little sloppy, but with GETWINDOWS you may even be able to
get away without returning NG references:

IDL> .comp
- pro foo
- p = plot(/test)
- end
% Compiled module: FOO.
IDL> foo
IDL> help, p ; no reference
P UNDEFINED = <Undefined>
IDL> w = getwindows()
IDL> help, w
W OBJREF = Array[1]
IDL> p = (w[0])['plot'] ; extract plot from window
IDL> p.color = 'red' ; yay!

With only one window, this example is a bit simplistic.

Has anyone been able to find the release notes? I'm on
the ITTVIS web page looking now, but nada. :-(

Chris,

These look great, but I notice some strange behavior.
When I move my cursor in the vertical grid where the
letters "Boulder" are, for example, the "position" in
the lower-right corner of the window is only periodically
in map coordinates. Most of the time it is in pixel
coordinates. Is there a reason for this? While I'm inside
the map, shouldn't I always get map coordinates?

It looks to me like if I get "close" to a line I get
map coordinates. Is this intentional? Does this mean
I need to wrap all my maps in a very fine-mesh grid
to get map locations?

Horizontal lines appear to react differently than
vertical lines. Strange.

Cheers,

David

My favorite new features - Box axes on maps, thick < 1, and the Arrow
function:

m = Map('Mercator', /BOX_AXES, LABEL_POSITION=0, $
LIMIT=[-60,0,60,360], FILL_COLOR='light blue', $
THICK=0.5, DIMENSIONS=[800,400])
m1 = MapContinents(FILL_COLOR='green', THICK=0.5)

a = Arrow([230,255],[0,40], /DATA, HEAD_SIZE=0.5)
a = Arrow([190,203],[-20,19], /DATA, HEAD_SIZE=0.5)

t = Text(230,-10,'Boulder', /DATA, ALIGNMENT=0.5)
t = Text(190,-28,'Hawaii', /DATA, ALIGNMENT=0.7)

m.Save, 'map801.pdf'

-Chris
p.s. you'll need to open up the PDF to see the thin lines.

I agree. Woohoo!

cheers,

paulv

p.s. It may be a smallish victory, but I've just had a very productive 0.75 days plotting all manner of statistics using
the NG BARPLOT function. Finally a bar plot capability that I can call and have it just work. No more writing out ASCII
files, schlepping them over to my windows laptop, importing them in Excel, plotting the data, exporting the chart
figure, and then schlepping *that* back to my linux box for inclusion in my LaTEX docs. Yay!

p.p.s. And the extra nice thing is that I can now return the references to any graphics created to the main level prompt
via a keyword to fine tune the resultant plots if necessary (e.g. moving legends, changing ranges, etc.) and then simply
invoke the Save method again. It's bloody luxurious.

Whoa! This must be the most anticipated release in IDL
history. I've been trying for 15 minutes just to get onto
the ITTVIS web page!
