Ah, yes, the ol' "Please update your video driver"
problem. We should have thought of this. Sorry!
It will help in the future if people mention up
front what exactly they are doing when they have
a problem. It's always better to have clues, as
Sherlock Holmes would say. :-)

That reminds me of the situation when, say, an airplane
breaks down and the problem is "solved" by putting everyone
on a bus: that works, but it will take you a long time to
get there...

Hello, I stumbled onto this thread while searching for the cause of the same error when trying to run iplot on idl 7.0.6, on xubuntu 12.04 by the way
any suggestions?
