Attached is an IDL routine (auroral_image.pro) for mapping data to the
Earth given a lat/long for every data point (irregularly gridded data). It
is primarily designed for polar plots but will plot to most map
projections. There are a number of alternative schemes in the routine with
varying performance vs. accuracy tradeoffs. Please send me notes of bugs
and desired improvements. I can also start a mailing list for
announcements of updates if there is interest.
