Folks,

The IDL book is finished!

It is now available as a PDF file here:

http://www.idlcoyote.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&pr oductId=15

I'll keep the introductory price going for another
day or so for IDL newsgroup readers ONLY, but this
is the real deal, not a draft version. This version
has navigational aids to help you find items of
interest in the book.

My special thanks to those of you who participated
in the chapter reviews, code reviews, pre-orders,
and the encouragement process. You will be getting
an e-mail from me shortly with instructions for how
you can download the book.

I also *finally* got some good news on the printing front,
so I expect the book to be available as a paperback in
a matter of only a few more weeks.

The new shopping cart is not ready to go (sigh!), but
I am working on it, believe me. I do believe I have
sorted out some problems some of you were having with
PayPal this morning. But, in any case, I'm not leaving
my desk to go toss a few down yet, so let me know if
you run into any problems. :-)

Cheers,

David

I've been proof-reading David's epic tome, looking for those tiny
typo's
and boo-boo's that plague many new books.

I have to congratulate David! After 20 years of using IDL, starting
with v2.1 on VMS,
I've discovered in David's new book information about old subjects
that is both *new* and
useful.

There's also plenty in there that I may have read once, but long ago
fell out
the back of my conscious brain.

And I'm only half way through the book. David probably wanted the
proof-reading done
quicker, but I've been too busy actually reading the book.

Well done, Coyote!

Only one question though - where was Coyote Graphics back in 1991?
Oh wait, XManager didn't even exist back then...

Regards,

Andrew

People here were complaining about me choosing to give
their money to charitable causes rather than using it
to purchase beer or other debauchery.

So, I came up with a scheme to allow people who wanted
to make a "contribution" to the work to do so by purchasing
"consulting" time. You can either purchase a certain
amount of consulting and "donate" it to the cause, or
you can use it for "real" consulting. That is, you
are free to ask a question of me, etc. The choice is
yours.

I am, quite honestly, astonished at how many people
*are* making a contribution. It warms my heart considerably. :-)

But, it is not necessary and you are free to purchase
whatever is for sale on the store and not think twice
about the starving person who is producing it for you. ;-)

The "options" just give you an easy way to add some
of these "extra" considerations.

Cheers,

David

Glad to find that you finish this book.
I am going to order one but could you explain me the differences
between all the options in the pdf order in the menu at the end of the
page (book alone, etc.) ?

Too far down on the ToDo list, I guess. You can add
whatever additional items you like to your shopping
cart. :-)

Cheers,

David
