Has anyone tried installing and running IDL on a Mac running
OS X 10.7 (Lion)? Any major problems?

I need to buy a new computer, and I am sure it will come with
10.7 (and may not be capable of running 10.6).

Thanks, Ken Bowman

I installed Lion onto a system that already had IDL 8.1 on it.

I have had your problem for previous installs. I have been able to
manually install, i.e., copying the idl81 directory from an IDL 8.1
installation on a different Mac. I don't think 8.1 had a UNIX installer
for Mac OS X, but if it did, that might work. Not sure if this would
work in this case, but might be work a try.

So I bought a new iMac. It came with Lion installed. I did the basic
software updates and installs, then attempted to install IDL 8.1.

The installer fails with an error message: "... Contact the software
manufacturer for assistance." We have filed a bug report with ITTVIS.
The logs suggest it might be a security or permission issue.

For those of you who are successfully running IDL under Lion, are
you running on a new machine, or did you already have IDL installed
on a machine that you upgraded to Lion?
