map_set projection "from below"? [message #77255] Sat, 13 August 2011 05:04

Does somebody know a suitable way to generate with "map_set" an
inverted view of a map projection? What I have in mind is the view
"from the other side", not from outside onto Earth's surface, but
through the Earth as if it were transparent to visualize the surface
structures (and some corresponding potential fields) as an inverted
view from below.

I would need this kind of projection to allow a direct comparison of
North and South near-polar regions in the same way with respect to the
Sun's position, i.e. with the Sun on top, midnight on bottom, dawn to
the right and dusk to the left.

Or is there an elegant workaround like this: first mapping with the
usual map_set instruction and then invert the resulting image? The
problem then: how to label it correctly without too many "handwork"?

Best regards, mfo.
