Bill,

ITTVIS support indicate they are unwilling to assist in getting the
licence to work on Windows 7 as IDL 6.0 was not designed for this
operating system, suggesting i should purchase the latest version of
IDL. Well installation of IDL 6.0 works fine under Windows 7 and so do
the programmes, it's just that the licence thinks i'm trying to
operate remotely, which i'm not. The licence i have is a personal one
and should work on any machine i have the use of.

Others must have enconted such a difficulty i'm just wondering if they
might share a solution.

thank you,
Neil

Neil,
I, too, feel your pain, but there is probably nothing ITTVIS can do
short of giving you a free license for a newer version that will work.
This, however, would not be fair to users who have been paying big
annual dues to keep their licenses current.

Nevertheless, you have still have options. The simple way to make this
work is to install some virtualization software on your machine (e.g.,
VirtualBox, free), then install Windows XP in a virtual machine
running IDL 6.

Haje,

I installed the Windows XP Mode virtual machine under the Windows 7
operating system, but i get the error message:

"IDL Validation Error
Unable to obtain a license to run as a windows terminal server client"

which almost defeates the object of having a virtual machine.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Neil
