I tried it yesterday, without much success. Today, watching
the tennis seems to be a MUCH better idea than fighting
with IDL.
Cheers,

Well, Fortran is still going strong. :o)
But don't take my word for it. See: http://www.levenez.com/lang/ :oD

Run IDL in a 32-bit environment? (BTW, have you tried that?)

Just to add insult to injury, about 2 seconds after
I hit the Send button, I got an e-mail from ITTVIS
with my Maintenance Quote. I suppose "and put it where
the sun don't shine" is not an appropriate response. :-)
Cheers,

Seriously. I've been a loyal (if occasionally outspoken)
customer for a long time. IDL has been my professional
life. But if a young person asked me what programming
language he/she should learn for scientific programming,
IDL would not be the first name I came up with any more. :-(
I suppose this is inevitable. No language lasts forever.
Is Borland Turbo C still around? And Python has its own
problems (e.g., the transition from 2 to 3). But, it's sad
to see. Now that I think about it, it's kind of like watching
your parents get old. Lots of nostalgia and lots of sadness, too.
Still, we soldier on until they are actually gone. What else
can we do?
Cheers,
David

Oh, hang on! I can make sense of that. No colorbar
information in the contour plot (got commented out).
But, if I fix that, then this program definitely
crashes my computer, with both software and hardware
rendering turned on. Removing the TICKNAME keyword
from the COLORBAR function solves the problem in
both cases.
This is *really* strange, because yesterday afternoon
this program was working! It was my main test program.
I just confirmed that I am running my new driver. I
guess I could try clearing out all the files in my
cache again, but this is getting to be a TOTAL bother! :-(
Cheers,
David
