12 bit tiff images [message #7760]

I have a tiff image that has a bit sample set to 16. The image
was scanned on a scanner at 12 bits.

I want to read this image in IDL but the tiff_read.pro only handles
8 and 24. Can someone point me to some IDL tiff library routines
that can do this for me.
