Folks,

Onward and upward!

OK, I have managed to create a PostScript file of a
map projection without a black background using a
command like this:

winObj.save, 'imgmap.eps', BITMAP=1, HEIGHT=5*600, WIDTH=8*600

There is a difference in what file extension I use.
I have tried importing the files into Framemaker 9, the
software I use to write books, and into Microsoft
Word 2007.

If I save the file as "imgmap.ps" or as "imgmap.eps"
I can import the files into Framemaker, but I am
unable either to see the graphic in the file or to
successfully print the file. (I see a gray box in
the output from the printer in either case.)

If I try to import the file named "imgmap.ps" into
Microsoft Word, it complains and won't let me proceed.
I can open the file "imgmap.eps" in Microsoft Word,
and I see the graphic. It also prints properly.

I am not sure what all this means, except that I long
for the good old days when things just seemed to work!
It probably means I have to buy all new software. I guess
that's right. I had to buy all new computers when IDL 7
came out. This should probably get me up to date. :-(

Cheers,

David
