To follow up on this, a sufficient workaround to avoid these crashes
involving QkHelp.c seems to be to
remove the TOOLTIPS keyword values from all WIDGET_BUTTONs .
The tooltips balloons are handy, but not at the expense of having the
50% of my users who prefer to use gnome experience random crashes.

Anybody who has a better solution than removing this feature, please
let me know.
