How to determine if ENVI is loaded? [message #78157] Tue, 25 October 2011 09:15

Hi,

I have a function which uses one of the commands provided by ENVI (for
example, ENVI_SELECT). If I call the function and ENVI is not loaded
then I'd like the function to load ENVI and then run the ENVI_SELECT
command, but if ENVI is already loaded I just want it to run the
ENVI_SELECT command.

Thus, I need some way to determine if ENVI is currently running in the
IDL session. Is there an official way to do this? Does ENVI set any
variable when it starts up?

I know (from the output of the help command) that when ENVI is running a
lot of specific ENVI procedures and functions are compiled - is there
some way to programmatically determine whether a function is compiled?

Any other ideas?

Cheers,

Robin
