NetCDF-4 allows various 64-bit data types in addition to DOUBLE,
but there is no /LONG64 or /ULONG64 keyword in NCDF_VARGET. (I
tried it and got an error message.)
Any idea why not?
I have been trying to learn some of the new NetCDF-4 features and it
has been, uh, an interesting experience.

I had the slight hope that the sdf patch would allow all the ncdf
features, because Ken didn't say anything about the patch... Quite
disappointing, but thanks!

It seems to me the post you quote speaks for itself. :-)
Cheers,
