Folks,
Mark Piper does another fantastic job explaining how
GRIB files work on this latest webinar, although he
wasn't able to actually *run* any of the GRIB code,
since it doesn't run in Windows. (Maybe a limited
version will be running in the mid-2012 time range,
according to what I heard today.)
Nevertheless, Mark's pain is almost palpable as he
has to work around broken software to get his message
across. Maybe it's reassuring that the GRIB code is as
flawed as the function graphics code. We certainly
don't get the feeling we are missing out on much by
not upgrading.
And GRIB models are strange, aren't they? Did that
file *really* predict 95 meters of snow in the
Madison, Wisconsin area!? Poor Liam won't be dug
out until some time next year!
Cheers,
David
