Thanks for all the response to my original request for benchmarks.
I have a few points to make:
1. Per the on-line IDL documentation, the pre-Jul 90 version
of TIME_TEST is 10 (ten) times less intensive than the post-
Jul 90 version. This means that old version of the test
will run about 10 times faster. (I dont know which Version
the change happened at).
2. The last TIME_TEST routine is, in effect, a disk test
(as pointed out by Glen Carver) so the full printout from
the tests is needed for meaningfull comparision.
3. A couple of people have had problems running GRAPHICS_TIMES.
The correct spelling of the routine is as above, and the
routine is only compiled by running the TIME_TEST routine.
I'm compiling all results into some kind of usable format, and will
post summary time in the next few weeks.
