Our lab is planning on replacing our old RS/6000s with a Sun and using
PCs as X-stations running Exceed. I was wondering if anyone out there
has had experience using IDL through Exceed -- are the graphics OK?
Does the cursor function still work? (the one where you read data values
from the plot screen by cursor position)

Thanks,
Kevin

Yup, color map problems. I get unpredictable results with tvlct.pro and loadct.pro
occassionally. Especially when I am running over a serial PPP connection (slow but
sometimes necessary)

Kevin,

I use eXceed for OS/2 on a PC workstation as an X terminal to SGI
and Sun unix systems running IDL. The quality of the eXceed software interface is
sophisticated, and the X-server performs very well. I have encountered some
setup problems, for the most part specific to my system. Hummingbird support is
professional, and persistent. The support I can recommend whole heartedly. A
neighbor of mine runs eXceed for Win95 and doesn't complain.

Good Luck, George
