I thought this would be an easy problem for contour but the more time I spend on it the less simple it seems to become.

To outline the problem:

I have some irregularly sampled satellite data.

I have some regularly gridded high resolution meteorological data.

I want to only select the satellite data where the meteorological data has a certain value.

How I was approaching this is that I thought I could contour the meteorological data to create a polygon and then check each individual satellite measurement to see if it was inside/outside this polygon.

The problem is that the polygon is quite complex and there are "islands" within the larger polygon where values shouldn't be included.

Am I looking at this the wrong way using contour? Is there an easier method?

Cheers
